Deal: Motorola Luge (RAZR M) Prepaid Unlocked LTE Verizon Phone – $49.99 @ Best Buy

Motorola RAZR MBest Buy, today only, is offering the Motorola Luge for Verizon Wireless for $49.99. The Luge is the prepaid-trim version of the DROID RAZR M that was sold originally in 2012. The remaining stock was rebadged and sold as the Luge on prepaid.

While Motorola has said that this phone won’t be upgraded to Lollipop (despite sharing internals with the Nexus 4, which has Lollipop already), it’s hard to argue with this deal. For $50, you get an unlocked Verizon phone that can be used both on postpaid Verizon plans, as well as Page Plus LTE monthly plans too.

The phone features a microSD card slot and comes out of the box with a relatively-stock KitKat 4.4.2.

Like the RAZR M, you may not want to try and use this on other carriers. At the time Verizon was running afoul of FCC unlocking mandates by neutering the baseband to reject American GSM carrier IDs. It’s possible that the Luge has gone a step further and totally disabled GSM roaming in order to comply with said mandate – we can’t confirm that. Since it’s a prepaid phone however, it’s likely a feature you won’t miss.

Note that like most Verizon devices, the bootloader cannot be unlocked. While third-party firmwares support this device, Motorola is prohibited by Verizon from letting you do what you want with your own phone.
